The ways to do Versailles from Paris

The table lines up four kinds of organized trip and the independent visit on the same eight fields. The four organized columns summarize the Viator listings read through the Viator Partner API on Oct 5, 2026, and the independent column uses the official Palace pages. Where no listed product states a field, the cell says so.

Showing the independent visit. Answer the three questions at the top to add the kinds that fit.

  • Transport

    Independent
RER C or a Transilien train, then 10 to 18 minutes on foot. The transit authority lists a Metro-Train-RER Ticket at €2.55 for a single trip (read Oct 5, 2026). Its page does not name Versailles.
  • Guide named in the listing

    Independent
None by default. The Palace sells guided tours for €10 to €16 on top of admission (read Oct 5, 2026).
  • Gardens

    Independent
Free except on Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days. The Passport includes them on those days.
  • Listed duration

    Independent
About 1.5 hours for the Palace, 2 for the Gardens and 4 for the Trianon estate, and the official routes call a visit that covers all three a whole day.
  • Start and end

    Independent
Yours. The Palace opens at 9:00 and closes Mondays.
  • Group size

    Independent
    Yours.
  • Cancellation

    Independent
Passport and Estate of Trianon tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
  • Mobility, as stated

    Independent
The areas open for unaccompanied visits of the Palace and the Grand Trianon are accessible, and the Palace attics are not. Only the garden level of the Petit Trianon is accessible, and the Gardens are not easily accessible.

Organized-trip columns: Viator listings, read through the Viator Partner API on Oct 5, 2026, so each cell says what the listed products state. Independent column: the Palace's tickets page and its practical-information and accessibility pages, and the transit authority's ticket page, all read Oct 5, 2026. Where no listed product states a field, the cell says so.

Counts and hours below are from the Viator listings read Oct 5, 2026. The independent visit uses the Palace's own pages.

  • Independent visit

The Palace ticket plus a train ticket. You set the day, the order and the way back.

    What it leaves out

A guide inside the palace, unless you add the Palace's own guided tour. Planning is yours.

  • Coach, half day

A shared coach or minibus from Paris 7e, listed at 4 hours in both products.

    What it leaves out

Time. Neither lists the Trianon estate in its inclusions, and where the day ends is not published.

  • Coach, full day or palace plus gardens

A shared coach or vehicle for 6 to 10 hours. All three name the gardens, one lists Trianon entry, and one adds Giverny and lunch.

    What it leaves out

The 10-hour Giverny product excludes the Trianon ticket. Where the day ends is not published.

  • Train-based small group

A small group that takes the train or RER from Paris, listed at 3 and 4 hours.

    What it leaves out

This kind rests on two listings. One says it is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

  • Private car

A private vehicle and a guide for your party, listed at 4, 8 and 9 hours for 1 to 7 travelers per booking.

    What it leaves out

The gardens are not named in any of the three inclusions, and lunch is excluded in two of the three. The 9-hour product adds Giverny.

Which kind fits your trip

Three answers decide which kinds to look at: how many people travel, how much of the day you have, and whether you want a guide inside the palace. The table below covers common situations in plain terms, and the chooser at the top applies your three answers to the same format map. Neither is a score or an order of preference.

  • You want to guide yourself

    Look at
    Independent visit; coach, half day
    Why
The independent visit has no guide by default. One half-day coach listing offers a self-guided option with timed entry passes.
  • You want a guide for the visit and about 4 hours

    Look at
Coach, half day; train-based small group; private car; independent visit with the Palace's guided tour
    Why
Both half-day coach listings are 4 hours, the train-based groups are 3 and 4 hours, and the private half-day product is 4 hours with a guide. The Palace's own guided tour adds 10 to 16 euros to admission (read Oct 5, 2026).
  • You have 6 to 9 hours

    Look at
Coach, full day or palace plus gardens; private car
    Why
The coach listings are 6 and 9 hours, and the private ones are 8 and 9 hours.

Facts from the format map above: Viator listings read Oct 5, 2026 and the Palace's pages. A situation can point to several kinds, and the table puts none first.

What a tour does about the gardens

The Palace charges for the Gardens only on Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days, and the Passport includes them on those days. A tour's date therefore decides whether the Gardens are charged that day and whether a show runs, and a listing that names the gardens is not naming the same thing on every date.

  • Monday

    Palace
The Palace and the Trianon estate are closed. The Gardens are open and free.
    Tours
Nine of the ten listed products list no Monday departure.
  • Tuesday to Friday, Apr 1 to Oct 30

    Palace
Musical Gardens days. The Gardens are charged, and the Passport includes them.
    Tours
The gardens are named in all seven coach and train-based listings, in different words: free time, a stroll, an entrance, a show. One lists fountain shows only in summer and another when operating.
  • Saturday and Sunday, Apr 4 to Nov 1

    Palace
Musical Fountains Show days. The Gardens are charged, and the Passport includes them (the tickets page says until October 31).
    Tours
The same listings apply. The show windows are in the visiting guide.
  • Nov 2 to Mar 31

    Palace
The Park and the Gardens are free every day, and the show page lists no show dates in these months.
    Tours
The Gardens are free, so a listing that names them adds no garden ticket in these months.

When tours run

The Palace and the Trianon estate close on Mondays. Nine of the ten listed products list no Monday departure, and one lists Monday departures. Four of the ten list fewer weekdays in some weeks, so check the supplier for your date. Pick a date to see whether the Palace is open and what the Gardens cost that day.

The rules we read run from Wed, Apr 1, 2026 to Wed, Mar 31, 2027.

How tour prices work

The Viator listing data this guide reads holds no prices, and what the listings include differs: palace entry, the gardens, train tickets, a lunch. Two prices are only comparable for the same kind with the same inclusions, so this guide shows a price only beside a verified offer for a matched product, and the kinds above carry no price of their own.

For the part you pay yourself, the official figures below give a baseline. They cover the Palace ticket and the transit ticket. They leave out a guide inside the palace unless you add the Palace's own guided tour, and they leave out meals and the way to the station.

Sources: the Palace's tickets and prices page for the Passport and guided-tour figures, its practical-information page, which asks for two tickets on a two-way trip, and the transit authority's Metro-Train-RER Ticket page. The Palace's show page calls the 32 euro Passport the rate for residents or nationals of the EEA, which the tickets page labels the reduced rate, and other pages list other reduced amounts, so check who qualifies on the tickets page before you book.

What skip-the-line means here

A timed slot is not a way around every wait. The Palace guarantees admission within half an hour of the slot only for tickets bought online, and it says an online ticket does not include priority admission, so you may still wait to enter on crowded days. The sources below use the phrase in different ways.

  • Palace, online ticket

    What it says
Admission within half an hour of the slot is guaranteed only for tickets bought online. An online ticket does not include priority admission.

Tours and reduced mobility

These are the statements as each source words them: the Viator listings read Oct 5, 2026 and the Palace's own pages. The listings are the suppliers' own statements, so check the supplier's page for your party before you book. For the Palace's own statements, see the visiting guide.

  • Independent visit

The areas open for unaccompanied visits of the Palace and the Grand Trianon are accessible, and the Palace attics are not. Only the garden level of the Petit Trianon is accessible, and the Gardens are not easily accessible.

  • Coach, half day

Easy fitness level in both. One says it is not recommended for those with walking disabilities because of uneven surfaces.

  • Coach, full day or palace plus gardens

Moderate fitness level in all three. One says it is not suitable for walking difficulties, and one says it is not accessible by wheelchair and requires a lot of walking.

  • Train-based small group

Easy to moderate fitness level. One says it is not suitable for mobility impairments, wheelchairs or strollers, and the other lists strollers as accessible.

  • Private car

A wheelchair-accessible vehicle and tour in one product. All three list strollers and infant seats.

Where to book

This page can open the Palace's own ticket office. Viator listings are read for comparison only, and a tour offer appears below only after it was matched to a kind and checked. The Palace's practical-information page also lists a combined ticket with Tootbus, a bus trip plus a Passport ticket with two return trips a day. We did not read its terms or price.

Going alone instead

Going alone costs the Palace ticket and a train ticket, and the planning is yours: the order of the day, the show days and the way back. The baseline above has the figures, and our Visiting the Palace of Versailles guide has the hours, the show days and a plan for your date.

Versailles tour questions

What is the best tour from Paris to Versailles?

This guide names no best tour. The kind that fits depends on how many people travel, how much of the day you have and whether you want a guide inside the palace. The chooser at the top applies those three answers to the listings read on Oct 5, 2026.

Is it easy to visit Versailles from Paris?

Three train stations serve the Palace, and the closest, on RER line C, is 10 minutes on foot. The official suggested-day page says to allow at least half an hour for the trip, and the Palace asks you to buy two tickets for a two-way trip. Our Visiting the Palace of Versailles guide has the stations and the rest of the rules.

Is a guided tour of Versailles worth it?

That depends on whether you want a guide inside the palace, and no source we read measures it. The Palace sells guided tours for 10 to 16 euros on top of admission (read Oct 5, 2026), and during them a speaker takes you into rooms that are otherwise closed. All ten listings read name a guide in their inclusions, and one of them names a guided option and a self-guided option.

What is the best way to travel from Paris to Versailles?

The Palace names three train stations and bus line 171 from Pont de Sèvres. The organized trips use a coach, a minibus, a train or a private car, as the table shows. Which is best depends on your party and your day, so this guide gives the facts for each kind.

Is there a Versailles tour from Paris by train?

Two listed products are train-based small groups, at 3 and 4 hours, with train tickets included (Viator listings read Oct 5, 2026). This kind rests on two listings, and this guide does not set their prices side by side.

Is there a Versailles tour from Paris with hotel pickup?

All three private products list hotel pickup in Paris, and the half-day one lists pickup and drop-off as included. Six other products list it as excluded, and the rest give a meeting point (Viator listings read Oct 5, 2026). Check the supplier's page for your hotel.

How much does a Versailles tour from Paris cost?

The Viator listing data read for this guide holds no prices and the listings include different things, so this page shows a price only beside a verified offer. The baseline above gives the official Passport price and the transit ticket price for going alone. For the official ticket details, see Visiting the Palace of Versailles.
